The Plastic Problem: Introducing our sustainable shower goals

There’s no feeling quite like receiving a new beauty goody in the post… until you have to open and discard of the layers of plastic wrapping to access it.

Plastic is a big problem in the beauty industry. An astounding 120 billion units of packaging are produced in the cosmetics trade each year and 70% of waste from the beauty industry comes from packaging alone. When you factor in that there are an estimated 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile in our oceans, your new purchase might have just lost its shine.

Here at Vitaclean, we want beauty to feel good and do good. Which is why we relooked at our filter shower head and Vitamin C Shots to see how we could make them kinder to the environment.

Why is reducing plastic waste is important?

There are so many reasons why we need to do our bit to reduce plastic use. If it’s not disposed of correctly, it can find its way into our drains (causing blockages), our rivers and eventually the world’s oceans. This is then consumed by sea creatures and wildlife, sometimes proving fatal. As well as this, some plastics can release chemicals into soil, which can get into water sources and harm our ecosystems.

So, what are we doing to help?

We’ve redesigned our packaging to make sure it has as little impact on the environment as possible. All of our outer packaging is now biodegradable and/or recyclable and adheres to the requirements of ROHS, SGS and FSC.

And our filters?

As well as our packaging being environmentally friendly, our filters are all natural too. Artificial colours can make skin sensitive, while mineral oils clog your pores, which is why our filters use plant-based ingredients.

So, when you purchase a shower head or aromatherapy filter, you can relax in the knowledge that you’re treating both your body and the environment right.

The Drop4Drop fund

While we strive to be fully sustainable, we also donate to the Drop4Drop fund. This amazing organization is helping to fund clean water solutions in countries that need it the most.
