All kinds of active ingredients are used in cosmetic products today that can make the skin more beautiful and younger. One of them is Vitamin C (ascorbic acid). It is in the top list of cosmetic ingredients that prevent skin aging.
Why do we need Vitamin C?
Our body does not have the ability to synthesize Vitamin C, so getting it from the outside is a prerequisite for a full and healthy life. Vitamin C is widely known as a biologically active compound with many beneficial properties: for example, it strengthens the immune system, protects against microorganisms, and has an anti-stress effect.
The main benefit of Vitamin C for the skin is protection from free radicals at the intracellular level. Another important function is participation in the biosynthesis of collagen, the main protein in the dermis. And finally, Vitamin C affects melanogenesis - in other words, it is able to lighten the skin by restoring colorless "precursors" of melanin, disrupting the normal course of pigment formation. Ascorbic acid also oxidizes pre-existing pigment, converting melanin to its colorless counterpart. That is why Vitamin C is included in cosmetics for age spots.
Vitamin C also prevents the development of undesirable reactions in the skin associated with UV rays (especially in the A range), which leads to increased collagen breakdown and photoaging.
In cosmetics, Vitamin C is used in a special form, most often in the form of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. It is this element that retains the high biological activity of Vitamin C and is able to penetrate the lipid layers for a deep effect on the skin.
Cosmetics containing Vitamin C provide collagen synthesis, protects against photodamage by UV rays, brightens areas of hyperpigmentation, and improves dermatoses accompanied by inflammation.
In combination
The active ingredients can work together for the benefit of the skin, or they can neutralize each other's action. For example, Vitamin C can restore the antioxidant activity of Vitamin E, together they suppress lipid oxidation in cell membranes, thereby activating protective and restorative mechanisms. But cosmetics with Vitamin C and cosmetics with copper peptides should not be mixed - they neutralize each other's action. Therefore, before applying the anti-aging serum and cream at the same time, first read their composition. If the serum contains copper peptides, and the cream contains Vitamin C, you will not get the effect of any of the products.
You can use two different products, one with Vitamin C, and the other with retinol, at different times of the day. For example, the first in the morning, the second in the evening. Then you will not only avoid unpleasant skin reactions, but you will also be able to get the most from the powerful course of serum and cream. Also, together with products containing retinol or Vitamin C, it is recommended to use a cream with a high SPF level.
